CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - A deacon was in court today on theft charges.  Lawrence Cermak pleaded not guilty to stealing more than $300,000 from Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Garfield Heights.

Cermak was the bookkeeper at the church.

He faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

Bond has been set at $5,000.

In August a letter was sent out to parishioners about Cermak's termination and the investigation.
