BEREA, OH (WOIO) - Less than a year after being hired as the Cleveland Browns General Manager, George Kokinis was reportedly escorted out of Browns headquarters for good.

The Cleveland Browns released the following statement late Monday evening:

"Cleveland Browns General Manager George Kokinis is no longer actively involved with the organization. In response to rumors and reports that Kokinis was escorted out of the building today, the Browns deny those reports. In the interest of protecting the parties involved we will withhold further comment."

The Browns hired Kokinis in January, after being handpicked by head coach Eric Mangini. Kokinis had worked for 13-years with the Baltimore Ravens before being hired in January.

Tuesday, Mangini was qouted on the team's Twitter profile talking about Kokinis' departure and said for a variety of reasons things didn't work out. We felt organizationally this was the best decision to move forward."

After Sunday's 30-6 loss in Chicago, Browns owner Randy Lerner met with two members of the media and said he wanted to bring another person into the mix. However, he also said he wouldn't fire Mangini.

Speculation around town Tuesday was that the Browns are eyeing Bernie Kosar to take on a bigger role within the organization. Kosar is currently on their payrole as a consultant for the team.

The Browns plan to use this week's "bye week" for evaluation and improvement individually and collectively.
