EAST CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Breaking developments in the case of the Cleveland Strangler this hour.
19 Action News has learned officials are at Anthony Sowell's former home in East Cleveland.
The current homeowner on Page Avenue says officials do not plan to search inside the home at this time. The focus is in the backyard and a crawl space.
The head of the FBI says they are only out there as a precautionary measure. He adds that they have no reason to believe there are more victims at the East Cleveland residence.
However, 19 Action News Investigative Reporter, Scott Taylor has learned East Cleveland Police have reopened a missing person case from the late 1980s to see if Sowell might be connected.
The missing person in the newly opened case involves Mary Cox. She disappeared a month before the rape investigation into Sowell began in East Cleveland in the late 1980s. That case eventually landed Sowell in prison for 15 years.
The bodies of eleven women have been found in and around Sowell's Cleveland home on Imperial Avenue.
Sowell was charged with an unprecedented 85 counts yesterday in connection to the serial killings. Charges include murder, rape, kidnapping and corpse abuse.
The 50-year-old faces the death penalty if convicted.
