H1N1 Clinic: Giant Eagle Pharmacy is Offering Flu Vaccine

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Giant Eagle is first Northeast Ohio supermarket retailer to offer the H1N1 vaccine.

December 18th - 22nd, people can visit select Giant Eagle pharmacies for the shot. 

Customers should visit GiantEagle.com for information on specific clinic locations, dates, and times (see December schedule below)

WHERE: 18 Northeast Ohio Giant Eagle Pharmacies

WHY: The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends receiving a vaccination as the best method of prevention of the H1N1 virus. In general, anyone who wants to reduce their chances of getting the virus can get vaccinated. However, certain people should get vaccinated either because they are at high risk of having serious virus-related complications or because they live with or care for high risk persons.

The Centers for Disease and Control recommends H1N1 vaccination first to high-risk groups including:

· Pregnant women

· People who live with or provide care for children younger than 6 months of age

· Health care and emergency medical service personnel

· People 6 months to 24 years of age

· People 25 to 64 years of age who are at higher risk for 2009 H1N1 flu complications because of an underlying health condition or compromised immune systems

Giant Eagle will offer H1N1 vaccinations administered by Giant Eagle pharmacists to those 14 years of age and older.

H1N1 vaccinations cost $15 and walk-ins will be accepted. Some Medicare and Medicaid plans can be billed directly for vaccinations involving customers covered by their health plans. Customers are encouraged to check with their Medicare or Medicaid provider for details.
