Ohio Court Reverses Speed Ticket After Laser Gun Questioned

MEDINA, Ohio (AP) - Lead-foot drivers recently ticketed for speeding by police using laser guns in northeast Ohio have new hope.

The 9th Ohio District Court of Appeals on Monday reversed a $100 ticket issued to a truck driver who was apparently clocked going 67 mph in a 55-mph zone on Interstate 71, about 30 miles south of Cleveland.

The court found no record that an expert had established the laser gun's accuracy during proceedings in Medina Municipal Court.

The truck driver's attorney, Kenneth Turowski, says the ruling could open up possible appeals from drivers found guilty of speeding in the court in the last month.

Medina Law Director Gregory Huber says until an expert testifies about the precision of the laser gun known as the LTI-20-20, its results cannot be used in the court.
