
Pittsburgh Police Officers Killed during Saturday Standoff (KDKA)

Pittsburgh, PA - Community members are mourning the deaths of three Pittsburgh Police Officers this weekend.
The three officers were fatally shot and two other officers were wounded during a standoff in Stanton Heights early Saturday morning around 7AM.
Pittsburgh Chief of Police Nathan Harper and Mayor Luke Ravenstahl released details surrounding the fatal standoff Saturday afternoon at a 3 p.m. press conference.
Police received a domestic dispute call at a home located in the 1000 block of Fairfield Street in Pittsburgh's Stanton Heights neighborhood around 7a.m.
A woman and her son were arguing.
Two police officers, first on scene, were shot in the head while approaching the home by the son. The officers have been identified as Officer Paul Sciullo III and Officer Stephen Mayhle. Both officers had been with the Pittsburgh Police Department for two years each.
The third police officer fatally shot was Officer Eric Kelly, a 14-year veteran who was on his way home after finishing his shift. No word on the location of the fatal gunshot wound at this time.
A SWAT vehicle arrived next on scene and was immediately fired at.
A fourth police officer, Officer Timothy McManaway, was shot in the hand and a fifth police officer, Officer Brian Jones, suffered a broken leg.
Officer Timothy McManaway is an Ohio native from Northfield, Ohio.
Police identified the gunman as 22 year-old Richard Poplawski, who later surrendered to police. Poplawski was wearing a bullet-proof vest during the fire exchange.
Chief Nathan Harper said there was approximately 100 rounds of ammunition fired off by Poplawski.
Poplawski used an AK-47, a 22-Long-Arm Rifle and a pistol.
Poplawski has been charged with three counts of homicide and aggravated assault.
More charges are expected to follow.
