CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Cleveland Police continue to search for the driver who struck a Cleveland Police at a gas station in a stolen car.

The officer was struck by the car Saturday morning at a Marathon Gas station. The driver still remains on the loose this week.

Officers were monitoring the area of E. 117th and St. Clair around 1:00 a.m. Saturday when they observed a blue Dodge Neon pull into a Marathon Gas station. The officers ran the plates on the vehicle and they came up stolen from a silver Dodge Intrepid.

The police zone car blocked the front of the Dodge Neon in and as the driver went to exit the vehicle a officer grabbed his arm. The suspect then put the car into reverse and did a 360 degree turn while the officer hung on to the outside of the car.

The suspect spun the car all the way around and slammed onto the brakes causing the officer to be thrown from the vehicle and then took off eastbound on St. Clair.

Cleveland Police Sgt. Sammy Morris tells 19 Action News that the officer was taken to Huron Road Hospital where he was treated and released for his injuries.

The suspect vehicle was a blue Dodge Neon with temporary license plate S051288. There is no description for the suspect at this time.

The investigation is being handled by the Cleveland Division of Police Fifth District Detective Bureau.
