HUBER HEIGHTS, Ohio (AP) - Officials are trying to determine why a 14-year-old high school basketball player collapsed and died during a workout.
Lamar Alan Davis Jr., a freshman at Trotwood-Madison High School, collapsed yesterday at about 10 a.m. during an open-gym basketball workout in Huber Heights, outside of Dayton.
Davis' father said after playing one game his son was waiting on the sidelines when he just dropped to the ground and had what appeared to be a seizure. Paramedics were called and found him unresponsive.
Davis was pronounced dead later in the morning at Children's Medical Center.
Davis, at 6-foot-5 and 210-pounds, was a star player and colleges such as Ohio State and Cleveland State had shown interest in later recruiting him.
An autopsy is scheduled for today.
