CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Well, there is at least one law which Congress can always be counted on to foist on the American public and that's the law of unintended consequences.
A case in point…the federal rules which take effect next month subjecting airlines to fines of up to $27 thousand dollars per passenger if planes are delayed for three hours or more out on the runway.
Now like a lot of these kinds of laws this one looked like a good idea - Congress coming to the aid of put-upon airline passengers whose horror stories of being stranded for hours on parked planes have filled the front pages in recent years.
But, now comes the unintended consequences. Continental Airlines announced this week that rather than risk those kinds of fines they will simply cancel any flight that looks like it might be delayed three hours. other airlines are expected to follow suit. Swell.
Now, instead of being delayed on your trip out of town - thanks to that new law- you may not be traveling at all.
