Editorial: Osama is sleeping with the fishes

Posted: Updated:

Osama bin Laden sleeps with the fishes. Finally, after all this time the mythical monster is nothing more than six feet, four inches of carrion for the hungry of the deep.

The official verdict is that, with his death, justice has been served. But it wasn't justice that was served folks, it was vengeance and I for one have no trouble with that.

Yes, we are taught in the west that revenge is immoral or at best unseemly. But I'm sorry, I am happy in the knowledge that bin Laden surely heard those choppers land in the night at his compound, listened in terror to the rat-tat-tat of American gunfire that was coming for him.

And don't think for a minute we were ever going to take him alive. Now why we thought it necessary to be so sensitive to his Islamic burial rituals I don't understand, nor the White House refusal to release his death photo.

What mercy, what dignity in death did he give those souls in the twin towers? Nevertheless, the president, the CIA and especially those Navy SEALs should be commended for their courage and, best of all, our enemies are on notice that we will come for them too, in pursuit of either justice, or revenge.

Write and let me know what you think. I'm Bill Applegate.
