Radio One Cleveland Gives Students A Voice!

Posted: Updated:
CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Inspired by the success of the recent MyMedia youth reporter training through the MyCom network, Radio One is launching an innovative partnership with Cuyahoga County youth to create a weekly 30-minute broadcast by, for, and about teenagers.

"This is a unique moment in Cleveland radio as we hand over the station to our young listeners for open and honest conversations," stated Radio One Operations Manager and on-air personality Colby "Colb" Tyner. "This show offers a teachable moment for parents."

The show will air on Sundays at 6:30 a.m. on 107.9 FM, leading into the Rickey Smiley Morning Show, and will also be available by podcast.

Youth, along with Tyner and host Bijou Star, named the new program "MyVoice" to recognize its roots in the MyCom network, and its goal of increasing the youth voice in mainstream media.

MyCom is a youth development partnership between Cuyahoga County and The Cleveland Foundation, that supports after-school programming, youth employment, leadership and other opportunities that prepare students from kindergarten to high-school graduation for success. Recently, MyCom completed a John S. and James L. Knight Foundation grant for a journalism and digital media project, called "MyMedia."

Several of the youth reporters trained through MyMedia are now spearheading the MyVoice project with Radio One. For more information log onto zhiphopcleveland.com.
