Editorial: Letting Despots have their way

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

It's hard to understand why the United States government thinks it's O. K. these days to allow itself to be insulted, disrespected and otherwise pushed around by tin horn dictators like Khadafy in Libya, Chavez in Venezuela and, of course, Ahmadinejad in Iran.

The latest from the dictator in Tehran is that his country might, might release two American hikers held illegally there in an Iranian jail do so in exchange for a bond of a million dollars. Bond my backside.

What it is..is extortion which we will undoubtedly pay.

And Ahmadinejad will follow-up that sweet deal by traveling to New York next week where he will be received with open arms by the United Nations and, of course, those left-wing students at Columbia University.

And, then as he has in the past, he will take to the U.N. podium to insult and vilify us all the while enjoying the hospitality of New York.

And meanwhile, our leaders in Washington will sit silently on their hands. It's a policy that only further weakens America's image both here and abroad.

Write and let me know what you think. I'm Bill Applegate.
