One person hits Mega Million$ jackpot despite local lotto machine problems

The Mega Millions jackpot was up to $206 million dollars for Tuesday night's drawing, but not everyone was able to buy a ticket.

There were spotty outages at several convenience stores in the area. 19 Action News received calls from residents in various cities including Cleveland, Ravenna, Streetsboro, Strongsville, Mayfield Heights and Solon -- all angry they were not able to purchase lottery tickets. So checked out a few of them and talked to owners about the problem.

"I had customers coming in non-stop complaining about it. They were cursing me out. We're losing money because of that. Customers aren't going to return to the store because of this and it goes on every time the weather gets bad," said a Save More Market clerk.

It's not the stores fault. The lotto machines are all connected to a satellite network.

"The problem is, the weather was just so thick and heavy, it's very hard for the signal to pass through those kind of conditions," said Danielle Frizzi-Babb of the Ohio Lottery.

One lucky person in New York hit the winning numbers - 23, 32, 33, 39, 43 and 8.
