Elderly woman killed in North Royalton house fire identified

NORTH ROYALTON, OHIO (WOIO) -

The woman killed in a North Royalton house fire has been identified.

Flames erupted at a home in the 5500 block of Royalwood Road around 10PM Monday night.

"Fire department units were on scene within 2 minutes of the initial call," said North Royalton Fire Chief Robert Chegan.

An elderly woman - identified as 80-year-old Eloise L. Evans - was found dead during the initial search. A man, believed to be the Evans' son, was found injured, but alive. He was rushed to Metro to be treated for smoke inhalation and heat injuries.

Investigators can already tell where the fire began.

"The fire did start at the back of the house, so there could've been a delay. Nobody saw the fire initially, this time of night.  So, when they got here, they knocked the fire down pretty well."

Broadview Heights and Parma Fire Departments assisted North Royalton.

Investigators will continue to probe the cause of the fatal fire.

Investigators did find one smoke alarm in the home, but it did not appear to be working.
