Couple wakes up, finds armed male in kitchen

LAKEWOOD, OH (WOIO) -

A couple living on Lake Road had a rude awakening Saturday morning.

According to Lakewood Police, a female resident walked into her kitchen and discovered a male wearing a backpack and armed with a knife.

The woman screamed for her husband and grabbed a baseball bat. The husband grabbed a tennis racket and went after the male.

The suspect fled the home dropping his backpack outside.

The couple called 9-1-1 shortly after the incident around 8 :15 a.m.

Police arrived on scene within minutes and tracked down the 18-year-old suspect. During the arrest, officers discharged their taser gun.

Officers also recovered the suspect's backpack. It's content included an iPad, other weapons and a check.
