Troopers seize more than $100K of heroin on the Ohio Turnpike

Posted: Updated:
OBERLIN, OH (WOIO) -

An Ohio man is facing felony drug charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized a quarter pound of marijuana, 60 bindles of powder heroin and half-a-kilo of brown heroin, worth an estimated $102,000 following a traffic stop on the Ohio Turnpike.

Troopers stopped a 2012 Chevrolet Impala, with Michigan registration, for a speed violation on the Ohio Turnpike, near milepost 135, at approximately 2:34 p.m. on February 9. Troopers observed an odor of raw marijuana and a probable cause search revealed the contraband in a backpack.

The driver, 29-year-old Brett Jones, of Bristolville, was charged with possession of heroin, a first-degree felony.

Jones was incarcerated in the Lorain County Jail. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison and up to a $20,000 fine.
