Cleveland police address violent weekend - six homicides in less than 36 hours

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Cleveland Police held a news conference Tuesday on the deadly weekend in the city.

Six people were killed in less than 36 hours, including a mother and her baby daughter after they were kidnapped at gunpoint.

Police said they responded in timely manner in all cases, and also addressed delays in the Amber Alert issued for 19-year-old Latasha R. Jackson and her 1-year-old daughter, Chaniya Wynn, after they were kidnapped at gunpoint by Jackson's estranged boyfriend. Jackson and her baby girl were found shot to death inside an east side garage. It appears as though the suspect - 35-year-old Thomas Lorde - shot himself in the head.

Police say they put the wheels in motion. 19 Action News has learned the delay in Cuyahoga County was result of hardware systems malfunctioning and not human error.  Primary and secondary systems failed.

In the other homicide investigations, 19-year-old Trevon Brown and 20-year-old Cedric Tate were found shot several times and were pronounced dead at a home on Dove Avenue around 2PM Sunday. There are no suspects at this time.

28-year-old Antwon Shannon of Garfield Heights was shot after a fight broke out at Tavo Martini Loft located on Rockwell Avenue and E. 9th Street. He later died at the hospital. There are no suspects at this time. Police are going through surveillance video at the club.

The body of 32-year-old Terrance Wallace was found inside his jeep on the city's west side Sunday night. Wallace had been missing since last Wednesday.

Police arrested 33-year-old Ryan Miller at his girlfriend's house. Cops say Miller is responsible for a string of robberies in the area. Police also say Miller had been seeing driving that jeep. Cleveland police now say murder charges are likely against Miller.

Chief of Police Michael McGrath called streets "safe" despite violent weekend. Appears all cases involved people who knew each other.
